Side work that fits the slot

Cut the slot before you join

Hours, a minimum rate and a tax set-aside are the slot. Without them, extra work has nowhere to sit.

Joining a new job to a full week without a slot is how evenings disappear.

Three cuts

  1. Hours. A weekly maximum you can keep when the day job is heavy.
  2. Rate. The lowest real hourly figure, after costs, that still makes the work worth it.
  3. Tax set-aside. A share of each payment moved the same day. Ask an accountant what fits where you live.

Write those three down before you reply to a new request. If the job does not fit the slot, it is a no — or a later date.
